A living wall

Here is an example of a small wall I have built which is a feature to the entrance of a wildflower Meadow I have to establish in spring. I have used reclaimed rock and rounds of Elm I felled at the property.

Partially burying the wood rounds in the soil provides a habitat for species, such as beetles and other invertebrates, which breed in deadwood buried in the ground.

For now, I have planted with ferns, but in the spring I will plant with grasses and native hedgerow flowers to add further habitat and opportunities for biodiversity.
