More Edging

Rain was the first feature of the day on this job and lots of it. However, the heavy deluge ceased later in the day and the sun came out.

The job entails getting all the extensive edges to the bed to a clean and defined finish. Once this has been completed the bare soil in the beds will be covered with mulch. This process will be beneficial for plants, the overall health of the soil ecosystem, plus an added aesthetic to the bed. I will update when the mulch has been added to the beds.

The method of establishing new edges is mainly done by hand. Using hand tools such as a half-moon edging tool and a small fork to lift the unwanted vegetation is a perfect combination. The use of machinery for establishing new edges, I don't think is a good idea. If there are rocks or stones, this can cause damage to the machine, property and be a health and safety hazard. Making sure the edge lines are clear using a hand tool, is much safer. Once im confident the edge lines are clear, I then use the Sthil edging attachment for a more defined line. Areas I can’t get into with the Sthil edging tool, I use a Wolf Garden edging attachment. The use of a Sthil leaf blower to direct any mess in the beds is also a great addition to the task. After all, this has been done, future maintenance is just a case of whipping around with the Sthil Edge Attachment.
