Recycled Pallets

Recycling materials to make functional items for the garden, as well a habitat for wildlife is always satisfying. By utilising discarded pallets, I created a wood store and composter. Wood stores are great habitat for invertebrates such as spiders, woodlice, centipedes and worms. If you have a pond nearby, expect to find toads or frogs at the base of the wood store where it is damp and crawling with food.

Not only are composters great for making recycled organic material, but they are also a superb habit for many microorganisms and detritivores. Making sure a composter is open at the bottom, top and sides provide access which will encourage all sorts of wildlife. Hedgehogs often take refuge to sleep as well as hibernate. Toads also feed off the vertebrates living in the composter.

As you can see Ferdinand the Robin likes it.
