Leaves are gone

It’s that time of year when the leaves are falling. Leaving them on the lawn will kill the grass, so they are gathered up using a leaf blower. However, I would strongly advocate using leaves to make mulch or simply gathering them up and leaving them on beds. This makes a great habitat for invertebrates that overwinter in leaf fall. Another, great reason to let leaves rest on beds is it helps with the soil ecosystem and overall health. In nature, the soil is covered for good reason, especially in winter. Give it a try.
